Invitation

It is our pleasure to invite you to the joint RANZCP Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Australian Association for Infant Mental Health conference to be held in Perth, Western Australia from May 12 to 14th 2011, with workshops being offered prior to the conference

The theme of the conference ‘Growing up solid: Integrating emotional and mental health throughout infancy, childhood and adolescence’ has never been more relevant. Mental health disorders cause the highest burden of disease in the 0-18 years age group, yet services to this group remain underfunded, fractured and piecemeal. The AAIMHI and RANZCP Faculty of Child Psychiatry are delighted to host a joint conference, reflecting our commitment to the integration of understanding and treatment of mental illness from infancy to adulthood, encompassing different perspectives, organisations and cultures.  We are delighted to bring together professionals from a wide range of disciplines to hear from outstanding national and international speakers. In the spirit of integration we look forward to our visiting colleagues from South Africa (Dr Astrid Berg), USA (Dr Karlen Lyons Ruth ) & UK (Ms Michelle Sleed & Prof Robin Murray),  WA/Victorian artist Mr Shaun Tan.

Perth, a cosmopolitan city in an ancient indigenous land with much ethnic and cultural diversity, is situated on the banks of Derbarl Yerrigan/the Swan River, less than 12 kilometres from the Indian Ocean. Perth enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia. Western Australia is an enormous State with some of the most ancient landscapes in the world that include rugged gorges, tropical reefs, towering forests, woodlands, bush, desert, white beaches and 12,500 kilometres of coastline.  We welcome you to Perth for what promises to be a rich scientific program, balanced with enjoyment of Western Australia’s rich cultures, fine cuisine, wines, arts, beaches, surf and landscape.

On behalf of the conference organising committee,

Dr Caroline Goossens
Chair of the West Australian
 Faculty of Child Psychiatry
 Elizabeth Seah
Chair of Australian Association for Infant Mental Health,
West Australian Branch
