Welcome to the website for the 2014 Australian Historical Association Conference, to be held at the University of Queensland between 7 and 11 July 2014, hosted by UQ’s School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics.

Appropriately given the centenary of the outbreak of World War I, the Conference theme is “Conflict in History”. As is usual with Australian Historical Association Conferences, the theme will be interpreted broadly. Keynote speakers and plenary panels will concentrate closely on the theme but other papers and panel proposals addressing the theme in a looser fashion will also be welcomed.

Planning for the Conference is well under way, and prominent national and international keynote speakers and panelists have been secured, including Professor Karen Hagemann from the University of Northern Carolina and Joan Beaumont from the Australian National University (ANU).

The Conference will feature involvement from a range of University and other cultural institutions, including the Fryer Library and the University Art Museum at the University of Queensland, and the State Library of Queensland.  The Conference will also include streams from affiliated associations such as the Women’s History Network, the Religious History Association and the Australian Society for Sports History and Professional Historians Australia.

Further details will be provided as Conference planning proceeds.

We look forward to your involvement!

Associate Professor Martin Crotty (convenor)
