If you have an interest in giftedness and talent, then on behalf of the GTCASA organising committee, I invite you to attend the 13th National Conference on Giftedness, to be held in Adelaide, South Australia from July 12th to 15th, 2012. The theme of this conference is “Excellence and Equity for All”.

Globally, gifted programs struggle for funding. It is time for a renaissance! This conference will bring together experts in the field of giftedness and talent and combine these with the latest research from around the world. Australian based research and programs will be particularly relevant to delegates. Researchers, teachers and parents will all find pertinent and appropriate presentations. Of particular importance, on the evening of Thursday 12th of July, there will be a specific strand for parents.

In addition to the conference proper, on Wednesday 11th of July, there will be a master-class for postgraduate students working on a Ph.D. or Masters by research. And, on Monday 16th of July, tours will be available to primary and secondary schools demonstrating best practice in Gifted Education with innovative programs.

This biennial conference is held under the auspices of the Australian Association for Educating Gifted and Talented (the peak national body) and the Gifted and Talented Children’s Association of South Australia (the peak state body). Based on figures from the 12th National Conference on Giftedness and Talent, which was held in Hobart in 2008, we anticipate that approximately 500 delegates from all over Australia will attend. The conference provides an opportunity for sponsors and commercial displays to focus in on a concentrated group of people vitally interested in educating gifted and talented students.

In addition to the exciting conference offerings, GTCASA will be providing Youth Workshops for up to 150 students in Years 8 to 10 (13 to 15 years). The Youth Workshops will offer sessions provided by experienced teachers or enthusiasts on a variety of topics found outside of the normal school curriculum. For these three stimulating days, the conference will also be a focus for over 200 gifted students and their families.

Mrs. Wendy Stewart

Conference Convenor.
